A student has a right to public education. If you are unsure which district you should enroll in, or are having problems enrolling here are a few quick answers.

Enrolling in K-12 education
  1. You have the right to stay in your school of origin (the school you were in before you
became homeless)
  2. Every school has a homeless education liaison, this person is supposed to help you enroll and receive any services that you need. Click Here to find that individual
  3. If you are independent of your parent or guardian you are allowed to enroll yourself in school.
Attending College
If you are trying to enroll in a college, tech school or university there are financial resources available to help you.
  1. Before sure to apply for financial aide visit www.fafsa.gov
  2. If you are independent and cannot access your parent's financial information, talk to the school's financial aide office and request a "dependency override".
  3. If you are running into problems, ask the institutions office of multicultural affairs for assistance. They make great advocates and can help you navigate the process.
Teenagers in Shelters
If your family enters into a family shelter, the shelter is not allowed to discriminate against teen-agers. If you are told that you are not allowed to stay in the family shelter, contact YEP (614-280-1984) to resolve the issue.
